The $30,000 value of a second job to a college student.

diploma and money

A second job is not always on the mind of a college student especially when they are having a hard time finding the first, but let’s imagine that you had a job and you also had some free time on your hands. Let’s imagine that you took 15 hours of your non-productive time a week and worked a job that paid $10/hour. Let’s go a step further and say that the money earned from this position will be banked and saved for 1 year and only to be touched as a result of a dire emergency. If you followed this model you could save $600/month and $7200/year. You would be able to start the new school year with an extra $7200 in your savings account that you would not have even conceived of having in your possession one year ago. Let’s say you did this though-out all for years of college you would have graduated with almost $30,000 liquid cash to your name, when most of your piers would have graduated with thousands of dollars of debt over their heads, and no income and no assets. If you graduated with that extra $30,000 you could use part of it to sustain your life after college or to pay down some of your college loan early if you have them. You would be ahead of the game, instead of behind the 8-ball as many college students are finding themselves shortly after graduation.

3 recession proof industries

gas staion 1

1. A gas Station. Even in a recession people still have to get around and go to work. American consume well over 22million barrels of oil a day, why not profit from this? While depending on the area you may experience a decline in sales you should be able to weather any storm that comes your way financially. Take the walmart approach move massive volume at the best price so when the tough times hit you don’t really feel them.

2. A grocery store. Even though times may get tough people still have to eat, and will always buy the staples of milk, eggs, and bread. You may even want to offer more services during a time of the recession to increase traffic. While you may see a slight dip in sales you will have both the calender(holidays) and the fact that people need to eat on your side.

3. Tutoring service and child care. People will always have children and need those children to be cared for and enriched. A tutoring service is always in demand at every level of the scholastic area. If you are good in an area why not promote it and make some money from it. Adults have duties and responsibilities they must tend to which means someone must watch the children. Childcare will always be in demand as long as there are people that need time without the distraction of a child.

911 Mosque may not be built ?

guy with mosque sign

With the current heated and emotional debate around the “911 Mosque” there are new developments that it may not be built at all. The contractor that takes the project would definitely be black labeled in the tri-state area, but would gain a great deal of free publicity. There is a pledge that has gone viral on the net by a blog maintained by a contruction work. The pledge encourages other construction worker to not work on the mosque, and has been picked up by almost every major news network. Many are taking the pledge while major labor unions have not weighed in on the issue. check it out here.

It’s The Economy Stupid

money usa flag

It’s the economy stupid are words that resonated during the 1992 Clinton presidential bid by advisor James Carville. According to cnn/opinion dynamics poll ( july 16-21) The most important issue to voters by an over-whelming majority is the economy. By large this is the reason Barack Obama was elected. Other issues do become irrelevant when people are unable to support their families. Ironically the next issue was the Federal deficit. While President Obama is not the first president to drive a massive deficit , his administration has done much to add to the federal debt. With the 2010 midterm elections approaching very soon the party that seizes on the issue of the economy will be the one to take power for the next 6 years. Jobs and the economy are what people are concerned about, and who ever can deliver on them will be blessed with election or re-election.
